Renewal Station

The Smith County Treasurer's Office is a Renewal Station for Kansas Driver's License services. Anyone with a current Non-Commercial Driver's License may come to our office for service.

Exam Station

Anyone with a Commercial Driver's License (CDL), International Driver's License, Suspended Driver's License, Sex Offender Driver's License, or Concealed Carry Driver's License must go to an Exam Station for service. The nearest Exam Station is Phillipsburg.

Hays Exam Station

CDL Haz Mat Exam Station

Anyone with a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with a Haz Mat Endorsement now must be fingerprinted at one of the following CDL Haz Mat Exam Stations: Dodge City, Hays, Lenexa, Liberal, Pittsburg, Salina, Topeka and Wichita. The current charge for this is $95.00. After the fingerprinting has been completed, the customer will receive a letter stating whether or not the customer will be allowed to proceed with the renewal of the Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with the Haz Mat Endorsement. If allowed to proceed, the customer can take the approval letter to an Exam Station where the renewal cost will vary on the number of endorsements that the customer has on the license. The nearest CDL Haz Mat Exam Station is Hays.

Hays Fingerprinting Station

Fingerprinting for the CDL Haz Mat Exam Station in Hays is done BY APPOINTMENT ONLY at the Ellis County Abstract & Title Company. This fingerprinting facility does not allow walk in service. You must first call 785-625-2316 for an appointment to be fingerprinted.

HAZMAT Fingerprinting Process

The State of Kansas has retained Integrated Biometric Technology (IBT) to administer the fingerprinting process for Kansas Hazmat holders who wish to retain that endorsement on their Kansas license.  IBT is the authorized contractor for the Transportation Security Administration’s (TSA’s)  Hazmat Threat Assessment Program.

In order to ensure that your HAZPRINT driver application is handled quickly and efficiently, please follow Integrated Biometric Technology’s 4 Step Application and Fingerprinting Process.

STEP 1 – Filling Out the Application

Drivers should complete the TSA HAZPRINT Driver Application on the Driver’s License website – www.hazprints.com or by calling the Driver Service Center at 1-877-HAZPRINT (1-877-429-7746). The operator at the Driver Service Center will guide you through the process to ensure that your application is completed correctly. You can also call the Service Center at any time if you have questions about the website.  It is important to note that the application must be completed either on-line or through the Driver Service Center, prior to arriving at the fingerprint capture location.  It cannot be done at the fingerprinting site. 

Included with the application process is the payment of a $94.00 fee.  There are two forms of acceptable payment:  Credit Card or Money Order.  You can pay by credit card directly on the website or by providing the information to the operator at the Driver Service Center.  Electronic payments are the most secure and convenient for the driver, and will save time at the fingerprint collection site.  If you choose not to pay electronically, you must bring to the fingerprint collection site a money order in the amount of $94.00 made payable to Integrated Biometric Technology, LLC.  Remember, whatever payment method is chosen, you must complete the application on-line or by calling the Driver Service Center in advance of being fingerprinted.   A driver who has not completed the HAZPRINT application and paid the $94.00 fee cannot be fingerprinted.

STEP 2 – Being Fingerprinted

The driver’s fingerprints will be collected at one of over 100 fixed and mobile sites in the United States.  The www.hazprints.com website and the Driver Service Center at 1-877-HAZPRINT (1-877-429-7746) are the best sources of information on current site locations, operating hours, and driving directions to the site.  Drivers from any of the participating states can be fingerprinted at any IBP hazprint site – even those in another state.  You will be required to provide two (2) forms of identification prior to being fingerprinted.  Please refer to the List of Acceptable Primary and Secondary Forms of Identification for details.  In addition to being fingerprinted, you will be asked to review and electronically sign the application to verify its accuracy.  NOTE ** The fingerprinting capture location only collects and forwards the electronic application and fingerprints.  The fingerprinting facility does not have specific information about the program, nor will it receive status reports after the submission is made.

STEP 3 – Security Threat Assessment

Based on the data provided on the HAZPRINT application, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) will perform a threat assessment for each driver applicant.  The results of this assessment will be provided directly to the applicant’s state Department of Motor Vehicles.  You will also receive a letter from TSA with the results of the assessment which you will be required to present to the Kansas driver’s license examiner when you go to renew your license with the Hazmat endorsement on it.

STEP 4 – Status

Approximately six (6) weeks after you have been fingerprinted, if you have not received a letter from the TSA, information on the status of your application should be available at the Driver Service Center at 1-877-HAZPRINT (1-877-429-7746).
