Smith County Courthouse 

The Smith County Courthouse on Grant Street was completed January 1, 1920. This imposing modern classical eclecticism style building is 97 feet long, 81 feet wide and 47 feet high. Its construction is of gray Ozark granite up to the water table or to the first floor.

From there on up it is of cream colored Bedford stone. The flooring and wainscoting throughout is tile. Stairways to the 1st and 2nd floors are marble. The attic of the courthouse in 1920 had two padded jail cells and two common cells. This area is used for storage today.

Total cost of the original building completely furnished was approximately $98,000 and was paid for in full when ready to be occupied.

Veteran's Memorial 

The Courthouse Square Veterans Memorial was dedicated in 2003. This tribute to Smith County Veterans was planned by a group of interested military veteran volunteers. The memorial courtyard is paved with bricks bearing the names of veterans and loved ones, and the landscaping around the memorial is maintained by county staff. 

This self-supporting tribute was financed with donations that continue to be received to maintain the project.

Smith Center Airport

Smith Center Municipal Airport has a new concrete parking and tiedown apron and a new concrete runway.

It was dedicated as Gary Gardner Field in September 2011. This airport has 2 runways, one which was completed in 2011, self-serve fuel: 00LL, a new transient paved parking area, VASI (Actually are PAPI) lights, 1st come-1st serve transient hangar.

The terminal building has been renovated to include new restrooms, waiting lounge, pilot planning desk and kitchenette. A courtesy car is available.

There is also public transportation available along with several of the local Smith Center Motels providing shuttle services.

Smith County Memorial Hospital

Smith County is proud to announce the opening of our BRAND NEW Medical facility, located on the East end os Smith Center on Highway 36.  Completion on this project ended in the Summer of 2018, with staff moving in August. Our professional team of board-certified physicians, nurses and technicians are equipped to handle a comprehensive range of urgent medical conditions and injuries, routine illnesses, and general medical services. Some of these services include: Cardiac Function Testing, Physical and Accupational Therapy, Cardiac Reahbilitation, Pulmonary Function Testing, Sleep Studies, and one of the FEW remaining Prenatal and Obstetrics in the nearby area..... And that's not all!
